Abstract
Nanocatalysts have shown promising features in catalyzing various types of chemical reactions. Metallic nanocatalysts have been exploited widely in recent years in catalyzing organic reactions. However, non-metallic bionanocatalysts that carry C-C fusion or C-H activation have rarely been introduced. In this work, we have synthesized metal-free bionanocatalysts using various amino acids that could catalyze C-C fusion in organic synthesis. To demonstrate the feasibility of carrying out organic reactions, aldol condensation and michael addition were examined using a number of substrates. The preliminary results indicated that particular non-metallic bionanocatalysts containing alpha amino acids were capable of performing aldol condensation with aromatic substrate
