Abstract |
A one-pot synthesis of Au@Pd/POM nanohybrid with the aim of Keggin-type polyoxometalate-phosphomolybdic acid (POM)-as both reducing and stabilizing agent is presented. The resulting nanohybrid was characterised by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-angle annular dark field-scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Au@Pd/POM were used as a multi-functional electrocatalyst for ethanol, methanol oxidation in alkaline media. The best electrocatalytic activity was assessed by applying a novel activation process to generate the electrocatalytic active species on Au@Pd/POM. The electrochemical data allowed us to attribute the superior performance of the nanohybrid to the generation of Pd-OHads as the active sites at the surface of the Au@Pd/POM electrocatalyst. |
