Abstract:
In recent years, green synthesis using mild reaction conditions and nontoxic precursors have been emphasized in the production of nanoparticles for promoting environmental sustainability. Extensive research work is carried out using plants and their parts for nanoparticle synthesis. Best of our knowledge there is no report on synthesis of carbon dots from Nigella, although various nanoparticles have been synthesized from this seed and it is a well-known plant due to its unique therapeutic properties. In this study, we synthesized carbon dots from the Nigella Sativa as a green precursor. carbon dots have been synthesized by hydrothermal method and pyrolysis of Nigella Sativa, providing an easy way for the production of carbon dots without the request of tedious synthetic methodology or the use of toxic/expensive solvents and starting materials.
