Abstract:
In this work, a series of CaO loaded Al-MCM-41 nanocatalysts were synthesized and employed in biodiesel production from sunflower oil. The Al-MCM-41 was used as support for loading CaO with the weight percent of 10, 20 and 30. The ultrasound energy was applied to disperse the CaO active component over Al-MCM-41. The physicochemical characteristics of nanocatalysts were identified by XRD, FESEM and EDX analyses. The XRD patterns of the samples demonstrated formation of MCM-41 and CaO crystals. The FESEM images and EDX analyses revealed the high dispersion of nanoparticles and elements. The performance of nanocatalysts was examined at 70°C, methanol/oil molar ratio of 12 and catalyst loading of 10 wt.% during 8 hours. The conversion of transesterification was calculated 84.2% in the presence of Ca(30)/AM. Also, the reusability of Ca(30)/AM nanocatalyst was tested through 4 cycles and the conversion was 78.3% in the last cycle that demonstrates the high stability of this nanocatalyst.
