Abstract:
: Production of photocatalytic materials from low-cost secondary sources is the main idea of this research. In this study, MgFe2O4-Ca2Fe2O5 nanocomposite powder was prepared from an electric arc furnace (EAF) dust as a secondary source. After achieving the Fe, Mg and Ca ions in the solution from leaching of EAF dust, the MgFe2O4-Ca2Fe2O5 nanocomposite synthesized by a co-precipitation method. The best Iron extraction was achieved by using a Two-staged leaching: 0.1 M and 1 M H2SO4 , respectively at the temperature of 85 °C and liquid to solid ratio 50 in 1 hour. The prepared sample was characterized by different methods. The result of X-ray diffraction showed the presence of both MgFe2O4 and Ca2Fe2O5 phases. The average crystallite size calculated was about 78 nm. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the average particle size of nanocomposite powder was 250 nm. UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectra of the prepared powder revealed an optical band gap of 2.1 eV, which was in the visible light region.
