Abstract:
Polyester fabrics coated uniformly with Nickel thin film nano structure with 200 nm thickness by electroless plating method. This study investigated the effect of saccharin as an additive in plating solution, on the morphology, grain size, crystallinity, surface resistivity and magnetic properties of coated fabric. Organic additives influenced the metal deposition rate (nucleation & growth) in plating solution. The morphology changes from the spherical to blade shape with an average grain size 85 ± 10 nm and the surface resistivity plunged to the lowest value in 5 gL-1 saccharin concentration. It is seen that the crystallinity modified and the magnetic behavior becomes softer in the presence of additive by growing in easy magnetization direction (111). As a result of these variations, higher eddy current loss, higher magnetic hysteresis loss and shape anisotropy along nickel blade shape nano structure improve electromagnetic wave absorption of lightweight and flexible microwave shield while saccharin added.
