Abstract
Nowadays, with the development of industry, the environmental pollution is getting worse. In present work, a novel binary ZnO/Bi5O7I nanocomposite was prepared by a facile hydrothermal procedure. The as-obtained ZnO/Bi5O7I nanocomposite was analyzed by using of FTIR, FESEM, and PL techniques. The photocatalytic ability of the ZnO/Bi5O7I sample was examined by degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye as target organic pollutant under visible light irradiation. The experimental results demonstrate that the ZnO/Bi5O7I (30%) photocatalyst has high photocatalytic activity for RhB degradation under visible light irradiation, which was14 times as high as that of pure ZnO. This outcome could be attributed to the increases of the visible light absorption by narrow band gap Bi5O7I semiconductor and construction of the heterojunction between ZnO and Bi5O7I, which is beneficial for rapid separation of the photoinduced charge carriers. This research may provide some insight into the design of novel and highly efficient visible-light photocatalysts.
