Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to prepare cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) nanoparticles using microwave irradiated hydrothermal method. In this method, the nanoparticles are synthesized by dissolving and precipitating cobalt and iron ions. In this study, the specific amount of cobalt sulfatehydrt and iron nitrateblended together. Then, with the help of Sodium hydroxide solution, the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized. The surface morphology of the nanoparticles was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The scanning electron microscopy of cobalt ferrite nanoparticles indicated these particles have average size under 100 nm. The structure of nanoparticles investigates using X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern. The crystallite size and strain of lattice nanoparticles calculate by Debye-Scherrerand and Williamson-Hall equations. The average crystallite size calculated by Debye-Scherrerand equations was 21 nm that is a good estimate by SEM image results. The crystallite size and lattice strain are obtained by Williamson-Hall equations using expresses cosθ as a function of 4sinθ and line fitted to the data.
